Matthieu

FOREMAN

In terms of education, I got my diploma from a vocational school along with my advanced technician certificate, both in paper-making: two years at school and two years in a work-study programme. I started working at Papeteries de Clairefontaine in 2006. First I was a Drying Technician, then a Multi-Skilled Technician, then a Deputy Foreman, and finally a Foreman.

My main role is to act as a coordinator. For example, using the machine tracking sheet, I make sure that all the procedures are adhered to and that each worker uses best practices in compliance with ISO safety standards. Obviously, quality is a top priority.

My typical day starts with the handover from the previous shift. We check the indicators together, and then I usually spend the first hour assigning personnel and giving them instructions. Afterwards, I start working directly on the paper machine: cleaning, optimising settings and finding solutions to any eventual problems. I really enjoy working with my colleagues, we all get along extremely well together. I also like teaching the ropes to the younger workers–whether they be apprenticeships or work-study programmes. Today, I am very proud of my career path, and if I would change anything in the future, it would most likely be to transfer to the day shift. It’s true that shift work can be very demanding, but luckily I’ve got my mountain bike to help me unwind!
